Core Courses
The Academy encompasses the core humanities section of the school. Subjects included are History, Literature and Composition (including vocabulary and grammar), Critical Thinking (including logic and apologetics), Classical Languages, and SAT preparation. The course of study is built around a once a week, five hour tutorial session with students in which work done at home with the family is reviewed, new ideas, concepts, and facts are developed and explained, and new assignments are given. These tutorials focus on the core concepts needed for mastery of the material being studied, and will include tests to determine the extent of this mastery. In addition, there will be review of written and oral assignments. Courses are offered for nine months (35 weeks, including orientation week and finals week). Tutorial hours are from 9:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M., with a thirty-minute lunch break, although second year foreign language courses add from 30 minutes to the class day.
We currently have three different 8/7 classes and three different High School classes. There is an 8/7 class and a High School class on Mondays in Gwinnett and another of each class on Thursdays, also in Gwinnett. On Tuesdays we hold 8/7 and High School classes for yet another group of students in Watkinsville.

Electives
Spanish is available as an elective even for home schooled students who are not otherwise enrolled in Heritage courses. Registration and tuition fees are listed on the electives application form, which you can access by clicking here.
In Gwinnett we offer a full range of math and science courses (click here for more information About Math & Science at Heritage). Math and science credits from other courses may be transferred in for accreditation purposes. Students must take math and science tests under the auspices of Heritage Classical Study Center at least once per quarter if those courses are to count toward an accredited transcript. Tests are still administered by parents, but they are done so under HCSC oversight. Several test times per quarter will be made available to parents and students in order to meet this requirement. |
